We created this site due to the frustration of inadequate neurological hat pins for bedside visual field testing currently available
Other products either sell separate white and red hat pins, whereas ours is the only one that combines both with a long stem, as well as having the correct bead sizes for accurate visual field testing, including desaturation testing
Additionally, our hat pins are made from durable, matte materials compared to glossy plastics. This creates the non-reflective surface needed for precise visual field testingÂ
Most sellers of hatpins sell the white and red pins in the same size, however this is incorrect for accurate visual field testing
As per John P. Pattenâs 2nd Edition Neurological Differential Diagnosis (an excellent book to deepen your neurological knowledge):
- âFor accurate field testing red and white hatpins of 5 mm and 10 mm diameter (respectively) are ideal. Routine screening is usually performed with a 10 mm white pin. The smaller pins are useful for detecting small scotomata (small field defects in the centre of the visual fields). The red pins are especially useful in testing visual fields where a compressive lesion of the optic nerve, optic chiasm or optic tract is suspected.”
The beads are not removable, and are securely fixed onto the metal stem.
